The people of Bali

hindu priest at Tanah Lotvendorportrait, kuta bali

The Balinese love having their picture taken, often funny and eccentric most people loved my attention as I put the 300 pound camera in their faces. As our trip moved along, I payed special attention to getting close-up portraits. I chose one lens to bring, a 28-70mm lens, this lens needs to get very close and the three shots shown here, were shot at about 2 feet or less.

Putting myself that close to someone was often hard and took a lot of courage on both the photo subjects’ part as well as my own. In Bali though, the task was relatively easy as people mostly never declined and often jumped in front of the camera with a big smile. The older generation was harder to convince as they often were self-conscious of their aging features, but through showing them other portraits in the camera LCD, people often let their guard down and cracked a big smile.
